Following Agna and Chaturmas Niyams

There was a prasang where this Raja told his sons that whoever jumps into this pool and comes out dry will be my successor, so all the sons started talking to each other and thinking what kind of a request is that- who could possibly jump into a pool of water and still come out dry? Still, one of his sons pulled up his courage and went and jumped into the pool, he didn’t come out dry, so he jumped into the pool again, and again and again. The Raja saw his son doing this for atleast ten times, and then stopped him, he hugged him and told him that he is the successor of his throne. But the other smart-aleck sons then questioned their father-“but he didn’t even come out dry!”, the Raja then replied “He followed my agna, it does not matter that he didn’t come out dry, but the important thing is that he tried”. Thus even though some agna given by Bapa at first seem ridiculous or unattainable, we should strive to follow them because in the end it will make him happy and if he’s happy then Bhagwan is happy!

Saying this, Chaturmas is a time in which we all take extra observances, Maharaj has written in the shikshaptri that it can be things like doing an extra 5 malas, extra pradakshinas or maybe giving up watching TV and movies...
So from this lets think of atleast one new niyam we can take for Chaturmas
Ive decided to read 5 swami ni vato everyday and write one page of the 'Swaminarayan Mantra"
What are the rest of the kishoris thoughts for this?

Jogida na jadu

I thought this prasang would be relevant to us!

Youths and children were very dear to Yogiji Maharaj. He often said, “Youths are my heart.” And he cared for them as one cares for one’s heart. He spoke to them affectionately, showed genuine interest in whatever they said, and lovingly put his hands on their heads or shoulders in appreciation. Moving his delicate hands around their neck he would quietly check whether the youth had a kanthi or not. If any one was found without a kanthi, he would immediately give him one. He won them over by showering them with more love than even a mother. In the summer and Diwali vacations, Yogiji Maharaj used to take the youths to the villages with him. During this time he would teach them Swamini Vatu, Vachanamrut, kirtans, cheshta, etc. Once, while Yogiji Maharaj was walking with the support of two youths, he said, “On two sides are two youths. In the middle is Yogi the youth.” He took personal care of the youths who toured the villages with him. He personally prepared rotlas for them, served them food, and in case anyone fell ill, he would care for him during the illness.Yogiji Maharaj woke up early at 4.30 am and would then awaken the youths. He gave discourses on subjects like agna, upasana and seva. He was especially pleased by those who observed a complete fast with either food or even a drop of water. He showed his joy by blessing them and patting them on their backs. At 11.00 pm, after the evening satsang assembly for the devotees and singing of the cheshta were over, Yogiji Maharaj would gather all the youths in a quiet corner of the hall and sit with them again. He encouraged them to converse among themselves in difference languages such as English, Hindi or Gujarati. He would sometimes join in to amuse the youths by using English words, even though he did not know much English.Yogiji Maharaj captivated the hearts of even college students. He helped many to overcome bad habits such as smoking, eating pan and visiting the cinema. He inspired them to live a pure, simple and disciplined life, and thus prepared them to become ideal devotees and citizens. Thus, during their vacation every year, the youths accompanied Yogiji Maharaj for a month or two. When they left at the end, he advised them, “Observe niyams sincerely. Attend the weekly youth assemblies regularly. If there isn’t a youth centre in your village, then start one. I will write to you.” His affection for them was so great that he would take the trouble of walking upto the mandir gate to see them off. The youths were inspired by Yogiji Maharaj and their eyes filled with tears when they left.

11/05/09 Yogiji Maharaj

Jai Swaminarayan Kishoris,

As we all know, on 21/05/09 (next friday) is Yogi Jayanti. Yogiji Maharaj was the fourth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He was initiated into the sadhu-fold at the age of 16 and named Sadhu Jnanjivandas. But so transparent was the mystical joy within him, that he was fondly called Yogiji. Devotion, service, tolerance, penance, humility and countless such virtues flowered within his fragile frame.

As a build up to this auspicious day I thought it would be ideal to share any prasangs we may have related to Yogiji Maharaj.

22/4 Daily satsang reading

Hey guys, hope you have had a good week so far and sabha last sunday was successful!

The new topic is daily satsang reading. Please tell me your views about this, should we do it all year or just before satsang exams! Also any books that you recommend, or if you dont have access to books any online resources? Also how much time should we spend? (given that most of us have high school and uni work to worry about too). Why should we do daily satsang reading? and any other comments that you would like to make.

week 13/4 - Nitya Puja

Dear kishoris,
I thought I would get the ball rolling on this discussion post. The first topic is Nitya Puja. I know this may seem mundane, but being away from a kishoris mandal and our immediate inspiration we find that our puja is a 5 minute license to eat in the mornings! Lets see if we can all come up with the importance of doing nitya puja, its history, how bapa does it, what kind of things we can do to improve our concentration during puja, mansi puja, any extra shlokas you feel we should say, any extra malas you do etc

Please feel free to add in your opinions and thoughts and remember it doesnt have to be very long.
